In past posts, I’ve mentioned our big ol’ home redesign project. So far, I’ve shared the tools I use to organize all of the information related to the project, the new color palette for our home, as well as how spray paint has enable me to reuse many of the home decor accessories in the process.
Seems time for a room redesign “reveal”, doesn’t it?

The truth is, these redesign projects take sooooo much longer than we anticipate to complete. Besides trying to find time in our busy lives for product selection and installation, there’s also the extra time that you need to build in for unanticipated challenges along the way. I’d expect a ton of challenges when it comes to the kitchen redesign, but the powder room should be a piece of cake, right?
Wrong. In fact, although we started the powder room redesign in November of last year, it’s still not 100% completed. But, I am itching so badly to show you how far its come along, so I’ve decided to post the “reveal” photos, even if there are still a few lingering details to complete.
So here’s where we started in November. After living with the red and green color scheme for a decade, I was pretty much over it. On the list of things I was “over”, let’s add the builder-grade pedestal sink and faucet as well.
One more thing to add to the “I’m over it” list…wallpaper. Never. Again. Remember all of the fun I had ripping it down in here and in the kitchen?
As I mentioned above, I have now learned to factor in time to deal with project challenges, such as shipping damages. We ordered our vanity/sink online. When it arrived, I was so ecstatic to open it up. And then I found this:
Ugh. I was so annoyed that our installation would have to be put on hold until the company sent a replacement sink. And then the unthinkable happened. The replacement sink arrived, and it contained the exact same crack in the exact same place. Add more time to the clock. By the time we finally received a 3rd replacement sink, we were now about 6 weeks off schedule.
In the meantime, we selected and ordered our new faucet…isn’t she a beauty?!?
So we finally rolled up our sleeves and began the faucet/sink installation process…only to find that our pipe configuration was inconsistent with the design of the new vanity/faucet. Oh snap.
By now, Dear Hubby had enough of these renovation shenanigans, so he decided to call in our plumber friend to reconfigure the pipes to make it work. Mr. Plumber solved the problem by taking out his trusty Dremmel and cutting out this area of the back of the cabinet in order for the drawer to clear the pipes when shut. Problem solved!
(Am I the only one that always picks “problem” fixtures…i.e., those that somehow don’t conform to design standards and make for a tricky installation?)
All of the frustrations and challenges were so worth it when I viewed the finished product!
My favorite part of the redesign is the new faucet. Along with the mirror, it provides just the right subtle touch of “bling” in this otherwise simple space.
We’re all pretty stoked about actually having some storage space in this room for extra rolls of TP, a spare towel, etc.
{Please pardon the less-than-ideal images. I had great difficulty trying to get some good shots of this space. There is no natural light in the room, and it’s uber-small. Taking photos of a tiny powder room with no windows requires some mad contortionist skills, and (apparently) a camera that’s more sophisticated than mine.}
So, right away, you can see the issue. The location of our existing electrical box is a bit too high to properly accommodate the light fixture I selected (of course). Before you suggest flipping the fixture over, we tried that (and it looked awful). At some point, we will relocate that electrical box about 6 inches down on the wall. Since we’ll probably need to hire an electrician to make some changes in our kitchen lighting down the road, I’ll have them tackle this mini-project at that point.
We also plan to add crown moulding in here once the kitchen redesign begins and we have a carpenter in the house for that project. Until then, I think we can survive. Heck, at least we now have a functional sink in here. We went without one for about 6 weeks waiting on those replacement sinks!
I’m absolutely in love with the new wall color. If you’re curious to know what it is, head on over to the new color palette post, which outlines all of the new colors used throughout our home.
Finding the perfect mirror for this space has been an impossible task so far. Until “the one” falls into my lap, I’m using this inexpensive T.J. Maxx find that is really pretty, but not exactly the right length.
One last remaining project concerns this vast wall to the left of the toilet. I plan to create a floor-to-ceiling wall gallery with a mix of canvas images and wall accessories. That will be a mini-project in and of itself. In the meantime, powder room visitors are greeted by a huge wall canvas of my family posing at the beach!
So here’s the low-down on the fixtures we selected for our powder room redesign. You can also view the other product contenders that didn’t make the cut via my Pinterest Powder Room Redesign Board.

Consider turning the light fixture upside down – sometimes it will, sometimes not. And don’t have the electrician do anything there until you find that perfect mirror so you get both in the perfect spot. Love love love the colors and simplicity!

Hi Lola!
Great advice…unfortunately, we already tried reversing the orientation and the fixture just looked like it was installed upside down, LOL! Yes, I appreciate the advice to find that perfect mirror first before monkeying around with electrical. Thanks for the compliments on the space!
