Struggling with paper piles? Creating a clipboard wall organization system may be just the solution for you! This DIY storage hack moves those papers off of your flat surfaces.
I’m constantly juggling what seems like a bazillion projects. At times, my home office begins to succumb to paper pile chaos when I’m working on several different active projects.
When my paper piles started to expand from my office desk to the surrounding floor area last week, I knew it was time to address the paper clutter issue before things got further out of hand.
I decided to create a binder for a few of the larger projects where it made sense to do so. But there were a few miscellaneous papers that required a different type of paper organization system.
My daily planner and habit tracker are printables that I access frequently throughout the day. I needed an alternative place to store these important papers so that they would not get lost among the active papers on my desk. The new place needed to be super convenient too.
And then it dawned on me – create a clipboard wall in my home office!
I’ve seen all sorts of examples of utilizing clipboard walls for organizing over in Pinterest Land. Whether it be organizing art work, or organizing household papers in a family command center, clipboard walls are a simple yet brilliant paper storage solution.
Benefits of Organizing with a Clipboard Wall
Before I dig into the nitty gritty of my specific clipboard organization hack, let’s spend a little time talking through all of the cool benefits of using wall-mounted clipboards for paper organization in your home.
Efficient Use of Space
Wall-mounted clipboards save desk and workspace surface area, helping to maximize your available space by take advantage of unused vertical storage space. This makes it a particularly ideal paper storage solution for small home offices or workspaces with limited room.

How to Hang Clipboards on a Wall
When I set out to create my home office clipboard wall, the first decision I needed to make was how to hang the clipboards on the wall. After sifting through my organizing toolbox to see what I had on hand, I decided to use these wire Command Hooks:
Clipboard Sourcing
I found these gorgeous clipboards in the dollar spot of my local Target store for $3 a piece awhile back.
You can find clipboards just about anywhere, including:
These were awesome because they had the perfect hole for hanging on a Command Large Wire Hook (a medium wire hook would work as well, but I had a supply of the large wire hooks, so that’s what I chose to use).
This empty wall space was the perfect spot to create my clipboard wall. After determining the ideal clipboard placement, I simply attached the Command Hooks to the wall and began crafting my plan for what papers to store on each clipboard.
Paper Categories for My Clipboard Wall
Since I’m always reaching for my daily planner and habit tracker, I decided to devote a clipboard exclusively to these two key documents. The remaining clipboard will be reserved for a current active project I’m working on.
I’m so excited to have an easily accessible place to store important papers!
My clipboard wall lives in my home office, which is not in a public area of our home. If this wall was located in a more public space (e.g., a kitchen command center), I envision using a piece of pretty scrapbook paper as a cover on each clipboard to hide papers I prefer to keep private.
When I’m ready to use these papers, I just grab the clipboard, sit down at my desk, and get to work.
I’ve always been a fan of clipboards…now I can see myself evolving into a Clipboard Junkie as the ideas for clipboard wall organization in the rest of my home multiply by the day.
